Brainstorming an Ideal Medical Practice
I was gushing about ideas for Grounded Serpent today when my husband referred to my future patients as the "Serpent Squad." It brought to mind the Squirtle Squad from Pokémon and how cool they all looked in their fancy sunglasses. I don't know if the name will stick but I'm having a wonderful time imagining this future practice of mine.
I'm writing and re-writing our mission statement, trying out electronic medical records and calculating our future fees. But I want to know what YOU think! What would blow your mind and make you say,
"Yes! This is how medicine should be practiced!"
Here are a few ideas I have come up with so far:
- Home visits on the regular and at no extra charge. Whole-person care isn't just about mind/body/soul. It's also about context: where you live and who you live with. Home visits can tell me so much about who you are and what your situation is.
- A very small patient panel. I'm considering topping out my panel at just 200 patients. I would like to provide the best care I can and part of that is taking care of myself. A small clinic with very low overhead would allow me plenty of free time to enjoy my life while also giving me the time to fully invest in every single one of my patients.
- Social activities. This is still a work in progress so I need your help on this one. I think it would be fun to have in-person and virtual events on a regular basis. On Sundays, I could invite my patients to join a live stream as I prepare some healthy meals for the week and cook along with me. On weekdays I could invite anyone who wanted to join me on a walk each evening at 5pm.
Your turn! What do you envision for Grounded Serpent?
